CNN's mistaken identityCNN Newsnight just ran a piece on bloggers, and mistook this site for the leftist political blog Atrios. One of a series of screenshots of blogs clearly had the logo that said "Atrios Systems Research." permalinkFebruary 14, 2005Why I Am Not An EnvironmentalistWhy I Am Not An Environmentalist: The Science of Economics Versus the Religion of Ecology I view the current situation as far more serious than what we encountered in Colorado for several reasons. First, in Colorado we were dealing with a few isolated remarks here and there, whereas at the JCC we have been dealing with a systematic attempt to inculcate a doctrine and to quite literally put words in children's mouths. Second, I do not sense on your part any acknowledgment that there may be people in the world who do not share your views. Third, I am frankly a lot more worried about my daughter's becoming an environmentalist than about her becoming a Christian. Fourth, we face no current threat of having Christianity imposed on us by petty tyrants; the same can not be said of environmentalism. My county government never tried to send me a New Testament, but it did send me a recycling bin. I love Steven E. I wonder what color lapel ribbon one would wear to show the world you care about this "illness?" Kerry supporters seek therapy in South Florida More than a dozen traumatized John Kerry supporters have sought and received therapy from a licensed Florida psychologist since their candidate lost to President Bush, the Boca Raton News learned Monday. Boca Raton trauma specialist Douglas Schooler said he has treated 15 clients and friends with "intense hypnotherapy" since the Democratic nominee conceded last Wednesday. "I had one friend tell me he's never been so depressed and angry in his life," Schooler said. "I observed patients threatening to leave the country or staring listlessly into space. They were emotionally paralyzed, shocked and devastated." Psychologists blast Rush Limbaugh for mocking traumatized Kerry voters Mental health officials in South Florida blasted Rush Limbaugh on Monday, saying the conservative talk show host's offer of "free therapy" for traumatized John Kerry voters has made a mockery of a valid psychological problem. "Rush Limbaugh has a way of back-handedly slamming people," said Sheila Cooperman, a licensed clinician with the American Health Association (AHA) who listened Friday as Limbaugh offered to personally treat her patients. "He's trying to ridicule the emotional state this presidential election produced in many of us here in Palm Beach County. Who is he to offer therapy?" permalinkNovember 17, 2004Arafat the monsterJeff Jacoby has the correct assessment: Arafat the monster, while former president Jimmy Carter calls Arafat a powerful human symbol. The culprit is not the Electoral College, as some have suggested, but the way we do the math of elections -- how we count the vote. If we really believed in the intentions of our Founding Fathers, we would use our intellectual talent to devise an electoral tally system that truly reflects the wishes of the electorate. permalinkNovember 12, 2004The Phony Economic Case For Taxpayer-Funded StadiumsReason Magazine's Jacob Sullum takes the "pitch" for a new baseball stadium from Washington, DC Mayor Anthony Williams and sends it over the fence.
